When members of the Class of 1963 started planning their 50th class reunion, they knew they wanted to do something big to celebrate that momentous milestone. Their goal was to honor the school that had laid the foundation for their own professional careers and at the same time benefit students of today and tomorrow.
After much discussion, they set a lofty goal of raising enough money to establish an endowed scholarship for education majors. They knew it would be a stretch, but they wanted to aim high. They started fundraising two years before their reunion. Even so, as the reunion date drew closer, they knew they were at risk of falling short of their goal.
That’s when Phillip M. Wasylean II ’63 decided to match gifts of $250 or more. His matching gifts provided an additional incentive for classmates to give at that level or above and ultimately enabled the Class of 1963 to achieve its goal.
With motivation, teamwork, and commitment, the Class of 1963 has made a lasting contribution that will benefit WSU students for years to come.
