Anne T. O’Malley, Class of 1943 Endowed Scholarship
Anne T. O’Malley captured the essence of life’s beauty through her actions, soft-spoken words, and her captivating artwork. A devout wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, alumna, and woman of extraordinary faith, Anne taught us lessons on how to live a good and fulfilled life. How wonderful that future generations of Worcester State University students shall come to know of Anne through the awarding of this scholarship.
Anne was born in New York, the daughter of Worcester-born sculptor, Florence J. McAuliffe, and Virginia Hebert. Upon graduating from Worcester State University, Anne taught in public schools in Mount Vernon, New York, Barre, Massachusetts and Worcester, where she was the first reading specialist.
A distinguished educator and an accomplished artist, Anne was a member of Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society, the Worcester State University Alumni Association, the Southborough Arts Association, Arts Worcester, and the Worcester Art Museum. She was also a volunteer in many civic and community activities, including the Worcester Irish Memorial Committee.
Anne was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church where she served as a teacher of Christian Doctrine, the Parish Council, the choir, the Liturgy Committee, and as Sacristan for more than thirty years.
Ann was married for more than fifty-seven years to John J. O’Malley, who was also an educator. Together they raised six children, seeing them all through college and graduate school. Education was a core value in their family.
To commemorate and honor their mother’s legacy, Anne’s family established the Anne T. O’Malley Scholarship to assist students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year, who exhibit a dedication to hard work and compassion and kindness towards others.
