In 2009, members of the Class of 1954 celebrated the momentous occasion of graduating from Worcester State Teachers College 55 years earlier with a collective display of gratitude. So close were they to endowing this scholarship, they pledged to continue their financial support until the goal was met.

Their dream of giving back to future generations of Worcester State University students was realized two years later, in part by raising spirits as well as dollars with a special reception before the musical “Mamma Mia” at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Each member deeply appreciates the education he or she received at Worcester State. Many of the friendships made during their pursuit of a degree in education endured through retirement. Good fortune and good friends fuel their giving spirit.

Even in the early 1950s, it was difficult for many in the class to afford their tuition. In time, all of their sacrifice, hard work, and dedication led to fulfilling careers in education as well as other professions. Now, with this scholarship, they have come full circle, sharing the fruits of their success with Worcester State students of today and tomorrow.

They proudly offer this scholarship in recognition of and praise for the wonderful education provided by the exceptional faculty of Worcester State Teachers College.
