Jacquelin R. Huffman ’86 Scholarship
Jacquelin R. Huffman ’86 Scholarship
Jackie and Bob Huffman grew up in a small Texas town, married young, and ended up spending most of their lives in Massachusetts. Mrs. Huffman handled domestic matters while Dr. Huffman advanced his career as an Air Force scientist. After the children were grown, and with her husband’s support, Jackie enrolled in the Occupational Therapy Program at Worcester State. On graduation, she found meaningful work at Westborough State Hospital as an OT Supervisor.
Jackie’s Texas drawl, practical nature, and easy-going ways proved popular with both patients and co-workers. Her real-life experience included raising a special needs child, so she was well able to understand the challenges faced by others.
Jackie’s down-to-earth manner made her a relatable mentor to others entering the occupational therapy field. In 1991 she was presented with the Fieldwork Educators Award from the New England Occupational Therapy Education Council.
The Jacquelin R. Huffman ’86 Scholarship honors Jackie’s accomplishments both as an occupational therapist and as a non-traditional student. Preference will be given to older students studying in health care fields.
